Dr. Gerda Kumpiene is an Assistant Professor of Special Education. She received both her M.Ed. and Ph.D. in Special Education form the University of South Carolina. Dr. Kumpiene teaches courses in learning disabilities, emotional and behavior disorders, intellectual and developmental disabilities, assessment, and behavior management. She also serves as a faculty mentor for the Honors Program, KDP International Honors Society in Education, and International Student Association.

Dr. Kumpiene`s research interests include secondary transition of student with disabilities, family engagement in special education process, and special education law application. She is an accredited co-teaching trainer and Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) site visitor. She also serves as an associate editor for the Journal of Disability Policy Studies and is a Board member for the Learning Disabilities Association of America, WV Affiliate.
